Being Happy makes for Goal Success
Being happy makes for goal success because it fires up the success neurons in your brain and gives you the can-do attitude of a winner.
Yet according to brain scientists our natural bent is to be fearful and negative thanks to the part of our brain wired for our survival – namely the amygdala.
Hence focusing on the positive must become a conscious choice if we yearn for a life of joy, hopefulness and achieving our goals successfully.
Ginny Graves, writing on the topic of happiness in an article here quotes author Rick Hanson, Ph.D., a neuropsychologist and author of Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love and Wisdom.
Hanson explains in his book that the human brain evolved during times of great danger, so has a built-in bias for negativity merely to survive.
“For humans to survive under these dire straits, the brain regions responsible for detecting threats had to be turbocharged. Evolution favored those who were able to react to danger with lightning speed.” Another way to explain it is that the brain is like Velcro for everything negative and Teflon for the positives. “An upsetting experience in our past can cast a long shadow,” Hanson confirms.
So how can Being Happy make for Goal Success?
How can you summon a lighter attitude in the face of all this seemingly preordained negativity? In terms of the Law of Attraction we know that what we focus on we get more of – hence goal success will thrive when your brain is focused on moving away from the fear and pain of not having your goal – to a place where you amp up the joy in achieving it.
Which begins first in your imagination, using all your senses.
How to do it. Experience joy with all your senses—inhale the smells; feel the air on your skin. “The more fully you feel something, the deeper the neural traces that are left behind in the brain,” says author Rick Hanson, Ph.D. “That solidifies your memory of the moment,” Over time, you’ll have an easier time handling random stressors.
The good news is you can develop this power of positivity by practice just like you discipline yourself to develop any good habit or exercise routine. The result: you soon discover how being happy makes for goal success while at the same time enjoying a life that is richer and more rewarding.
Focus on pleasurable experiences and you’ll activate happiness-related neurons, which could make future good times feel more intense. “Simply put, when neurons fire together, they wire together,” says Daniel Siegel, M.D., clinical professor of psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine and author of Mindsight: The New Science of Personal Transformation.
“There are a number of things you can do to strengthen the more highly evolved regions of the brain, such as the prefrontal cortex, along with the neural processes that are absolutely basic to our well-being and happiness, including the ability to be flexible, handle fear, feel empathy and be a person who acts in a moral way,” Dr. Siegel says.
One technique is simply to play a numbers game. “Three to one is the tipping point that leads to a happier life,” says Barbara Fredrickson, Ph.D., director of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Lab at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. By consciously increasing your positivity ratio, you can produce a net surplus of cheerfulness.
Feel stuck trying to get happy?
But what if you have experienced such deep or lasting traumatic impressions in the past that you find it impossible to summon happiness so easily?
My recommendation is to consult a practitioner in energy healing therapies because thanks to meridian tapping techniques like EFT and Matrix Reimprinting we know that we can change the brain patterns of fear, phobias and trauma caused by early life memories. Past negative incidents may be blocking your attempts to experience how simply being happy makes for goal success.
But if you harness the clearing ability of EFT tapping with the advanced application of Matrix Reimprinting and Matrix Goals Reimprinting which re-imprints empowering positive memories into the brain you are well on your way to feeling happier and achieving your dreams and goals.
