Zig Ziglar

Previously I reviewed what was probably the last book Zig Ziglar wrote before he died in November 2012 – namely Born to Win – Find Your Success Code.

In this video Zig Ziglar’s quotes priceless goal setting tips which helped him lose weight and write a book – after promising himself to do both for years.

The key tip is goal setting the right way – and there are similarities to my own 5 steps to goal success process with which I can  identify.

Zig Ziglar tips for Goal setting – in a nutshell

“How do you lose 37lbs and write a book?” he asks.

By choosing to have a goal to change your current approach.

Ziglar’s first quotable quote rings with truth:

choose to set goals and realize your potential – or choose not set them…and live with the consequences which will not be so good down the road

An example he says was choosing to weigh 200 lbs for many years – and finally losing it permanently only once he took these goal setting steps:

  • he wrote it down
  • put a date on it
  • listed the obstacles to overcome
  • identified people and organiszations he needed to work with
  • plan of action
  • set time limit
  • identified the benefits

I think the quote he shares from JCPenny  is worth a mention because it underlines the consequences for ANYONE of setting – or not setting – goals.

Give me a stock clerk with a goal  and I’ll give you man who will make history – but give me a man without a goal and I’ll give you a stock clerk.

  4. If you can dream it, you can achieve it.
  5. Failure is a detour, not a dead-end street.

And a few more worth keeping:

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
